The role
SkyDynamics builds hardware as well as software: flight simulation training devices and the embedded computers its real-time data technologies run on. Both depend on electronic boards that are designed, programmed and maintained in house.
This is hands-on work at the bench. You take a board from schematic to a working unit, write the firmware that runs on it, and repair it when it fails. The position is on site, in the laboratory in Heraklion.
See the flight simulatorsWhat you will do
- Design electronic boards: schematic capture, PCB layout and the files for manufacture, in an electronics CAD package.
- Program microcontroller boards, STM32 in particular, in C and C++: drivers, peripherals and communication.
- Develop and test FPGA logic for the boards that carry one.
- Assemble prototypes and small series by hand: through-hole and surface-mount soldering.
- Find faults on boards and repair them by hand: rework, replacement of components, and repair of tracks and pads.
- Bring boards up and test them with laboratory instruments: oscilloscope, logic analyser, multimeter and bench supply.
- Keep the documentation of each board: schematics, bill of materials, test results and repair records.
What you bring
- 3 or more years of professional experience in electronics.
- Microelectronics and programming of electronic boards, such as STM32 microcontrollers, in C or C++.
- Experience with FPGAs: VHDL or Verilog, and the vendor tools.
- Electronic board design in a CAD and CAM package, such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD or Eagle.
- Manual soldering to a professional standard, through-hole and surface-mount.
- Manual soldering repairs on boards: rework and fault finding at component level.
- Confident use of laboratory instruments, and the ability to read schematics and datasheets.
- Degree in electronic or electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Greek, fluent (required).
- English, fluent (required).
Advantages
- A postgraduate degree in electronics or embedded systems.
- Buses and interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB and Ethernet.
- Real-time operating systems on microcontrollers, such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
- Soldering and rework to IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721).
- Design for electromagnetic compatibility and for manufacture.
- Experience with the electronics of flight simulators or avionics, and familiarity with DO-254.
- Mechanical CAD for enclosures and panels.
Eligibility
- Right to work in the European Union.
- Military obligations completed, or a lawful exemption, where they apply to you.
How to apply
Send your application by email to careers@skydynamics.aero, with the subject "Application SD-ENG-ELE-038: Electronics Engineer, Embedded Boards and FPGA". Include:
- Your CV.
- A short note on a board you designed or repaired: what it does, what you did, and what went wrong on the way.
- Photographs, schematics or code of your own work, if you can share them.
Applications are assessed on skills and experience, and are read only by the people involved in hiring. We keep an application for up to twelve months after the position closes, and delete it earlier if you ask. The details are in the Privacy Policy (section 2.5).
